Garfield Avenue

Garfield Avenue

HO gauge 1:87 scale

Set amongst the bustling urban industrial districts of Chicago (Illinois) the daily grind of cars (wagons) are shuffled from the large outer yards to the customers and industries nestled amongst the suburban streets in the Garfield Avenue district of Chicago’s western suburbs. This area is served by rail by all the railroads that congregate around Chicago so it is common to see eastern and western railroads motive power together.

The main industry at this location is the Cargill Grain Silo which receives a constant supply of hopper cars daily from the BNSF and UP in the west. The City Storage Company handles regular car loads of foodstuffs and an engineering plant deals with small car repairs and fabrication work resulting in a varied supply of different and unusual cars around the spurs. There is a small intermodal transfer hub which takes containerised traffic and piggyback vans. A small yard for holding the supply of cars servicing these industries is located at the east end along with a loco fuel and sanding track.
